A wooden statue of the Easter Island, which my uncle, who immigrated to Chile at the beginning of the s at the age of 18, had brought with him on one of his rare home visits. She has been on my desk for over 40 years and reminds me of my uncle, who has since passed away. The most common wooden figure of Easter Island is the Moai Kavakava. The polynesian word kavakava means translated ribs. Consequently, the statue shows a starving man with prominent ribs, an oversized, skull-like head, large eyebrows, long earlobes with ear pegs, a pronounced nose and goatee.
